Have Carrick been backed so he can compete in every tournament? If that is No, you can't say it has been a good window. Barada said to Andy M, we want to challenge for the title this season and win next season. (Something like this). Then he said not many days ago, we want to win every tournament we are in. Has they delivered so Carrick can do that? No. (In my humble opinion). So window was then not good, with that in mind. What they say, create expectations.
What’s funny is the club have been amazing at keeping things quiet this summer, but one of the few pieces of information we did make public was that Amass was for sale. If they hadn’t done that then they could now justify not getting a left back because they wanted to give Amass the chance and this whole narrative would be different.
They did the exact same to Ole on the back of the season we finished second and got to the Europa league final. I remember him being asked on the pitch after the final ‘what does this club need to change second and runner up to 1st and trophies’ and ole answered immediately’4/5 top quality signings’ Woodward and Judge screwed him over so badly in that window that he didn’t have a single new signing in the opening day squad of the new season! All they had bought was Sancho and Varane and Varane was after the season started. And the board said that was them done!! Then the Ronaldo thing happened. But he was badly screwed over in that window!
I think De Ligt's injury issue(s) is (are) the most important issue with our back line this season.
I think we're forgetting how good he is when fit.
I also think we should give Amass a chance this season, we have to, no choice, even if he ends up going we can't sell him for under 10 million (we apparently only had offers at 3-4 million). We need to be selling better because that phrase "sell to buy" is terrifying given our record. Forget overpaying we consistently undersell.
Always feels like no matter what United do people will always pivot to the next signing to try and catastrophise. Two weeks ago we were apparently doomed if we don't get a third midfielder now it's a second choice left back and if we got one of those next it would have been a striker. This time last season people were saying we were doomed because we didn't get Baleba and calling Casemiro useless. Things can change very fast in football and keeping both Zirkzee and Harry Amass could end up being a positive much in the same way that the new signings people salivate over are never guaranteed to produce.
