Manchester United Women go into this weekend’s fixture away at Leicester City hoping to maintain their 100% unbeaten start to the Women’s Super League season. We currently sit top of the table on goal difference ahead of Arsenal. Meanwhile, our opponents are still seeking their first points of the league campaign after losing their first four games.
The Red Devils alongside Arsenal are the only two teams yet to drop any points so far this season. On the attacking front, we are the league’s highest scorers after scoring 10 goals across our three games. At the beginning of the season, United secured victories over Reading and West Ham respectively. This was followed by a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the league cup, though we had missed out on the bonus point after losing the penalty shootout.
We returned to winning ways last weekend when for the second consecutive home game we ran out 4-0 winners against Brighton. A brace from Ella Toone, with Leah Galton and Adrianna Leon adding a goals to secure a comfortable win. United will now attempt to achieve a fourth consecutive win of the season as we look to mount a serious title challengers.

For United, we will be without Alessia Russo for another two to three weeks through injury. Aoife Mannion and Grace Clinton remain unavailable. Hannah Blundell is likely to be fit for Sunday’s game after coming off at half time against Brighton. Ona Batlle is a doubt having suffered a concussion during this game.

Leicester City beat the drop last season, and it seems they will be in another relegation battle again for the 2022/23 campaign. Though they had beaten Blackburn 3-0 in the league cup, their form in the WSL is a major concern having lost the opening four games leaving them rock bottom of the table.
The Foxes suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City last weekend. With this result, they are now without a win in their previous 11 league games. Leicester City will have to be at their very best if they are to cause an upset over the Red Devils.
Having not scored in three of their four league games and already conceding nine goals this season, manager Lydia Bedford knows that her team needs to improve at both ends of the pitch.

For our opponents, they are without the services of Hannah Cain and Lachante Paul indefinitely through injury. Demi Lambourne has yet to feature this season but the goalkeeper could make the matchday squad for Sunday’s game, though it is expected that Kirstie Levell will retain her place between the sticks. After being a second-half substitute last weekend, Molly Pike will be pushing to be in the starting eleven against United.
