This over reaction is of no use, Hojlund shouldn't be the first option to lead the line, 22 year old strikers are meant to on the bench or start as secondary. The real question should be what ready made experienced striker we can get in the summer, not necessarily from the best bunch but experience is definitely needed. Look how at times experience helps in the backline. Hojlund, Garna, Mainoo should not be starters.
1) The club overpaid for him wildly. Thats not his fault that’s ignorance and inability from the club. They should have had a value they thought he was worth and if Atalanta wanted to much then they should have had a backup option lined up and moved on not overpaid.
2) Rasmus should never have been the starting striker at 20 he should have been a backup and the club again didn’t buy ANY experienced striker when all our strikers left or were never available(martial).
3) The next summer we bought Zirkzee instead of an experienced number 9. That is just bad scouting again… I like Zirkzee but he wasn’t a starting number 9 then and still isn’t one now thats not his game. We needed a starting number 9 not another developmental project striker.
4) We look to be making the same mistake again with Delap as our most linked to striker atm. Delap is still in his first premier league season he is not a proven entity like people keep saying. He is an actual out and out striker which is atleast the right profile but we need goals now not in a few years and we need alot of them. Delap would be great as a backup the same as Hojlund would have been 2 years ago….
In conclusion this is all on the club. You can’t expect 3 young unproven players to lead the line for a club the size that we are and get consistent return thats not how it works and it stunts the development of those players to boot. We need an experienced number 9 and have for going into the third season now which is where we are at our league season is over already factually. The last point is we changed systems and loaned out 3 wingers and brought in no one to fill/replace those players in the system to provide offensive output which is just poor vision/foresight by the club yet again. Aston villa chose to sell Jon duran but brought in 3 players to cover his production for the rest of the season and that alone shows how inept united are these days.
I agree that we hang on to players for too long for too often but two players we let go of who have gone on to do really well are Elanga and Alvaro Fernandez.
We should never of signed him to be our main man, it’s too big a role for most players.
We have to replace him, then maybe keep him as a developing striker
Some people have forgotten that when we signed him, more or less everyone thought we needed another proven striker, so that we weren't reliant on him.
Nothing has changed since other than we have accepted we aren't getting a proven striker, so we've become reliant on someone we never should have been.
At 22 Lewandowski scored 9 goals in his first season at Dortmund. Fair enough he went mental afterwords, but Hojlund could easily still come good in a different situation or environment.
it goes without saying that we need a new striker but we wouldn't get anything for hojlund at the moment so keep him as a second striker and if it still doesn't work out then sell him or put him out on loan the season after
I think the problem is bit of both Hojlund not being in the right position to receive passes and also him not getting service when he should. In his defence, Garnacho is in the 98th percentile (top 2 percent) for shots on goal, with 34% of those on target. He's also in the 32nd percentile for passes attempted, and 29th for crosses. Based on the above and the eye-test when Garnacho and Hojlund are playing together, there are clear and obvious occasions where Garnacho should be passing to Hojlund, but doesn't and instead takes the shot himself (even if it's at an awkward angle).
Not trying to defend hoijland but his movement has gotten worst but think of it, after running so much and not getting the ball you start doubting it and it has messed him up, also, he needs a lot of development, he needs to witness a mature striker

I blame the club for Rasmus for multiple reasons:
