Joe is kinda right on physics, but i'll elaborate, it takes 1 year for light to travel (1 light year), which is about 5.88 trillion miles (9.46 trillion kilometers), which means because there actually wasn't any technology or space maneuvers until around 80 years ago, light traveling to say an advance planet somewhere in the milky way that is 1000 light years way (which is close in terms of cosmic neighbours) means anything any evidence that we exist for that other planet wont be seen for another 920 years because that is what it will take for that to be seen... When you look at stars in the sky, you are seeing them from hundreds thousands or even millions years ago...if a star 100 light years away just suddenly exploded and wasn't there anymore, you would still be able to see it and look at for another 100 years until that explosions reached our view..., The universe is SO big, that the very next star, the closest star to our solar system (Proxima Centauri) is 4.24 light years away, about (25 trillion miles), means if we flew there on a commercial jet cruising speed of 560 mph (900 km/h), it would take five million and eighty thousand years to get there.. and that's the closest one... so this why we dont see aliens, we are simply too far away to be discovered, or any evidence that we exist, hasnt reached their view in space yet
