One thing that definitely hasn’t been talked about enough, and you can look at this however you like, maybe it’s just unlucky or maybe it’s something more, is how rarely we seem to benefit from playing the rest of the big six (City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs) right after their midweek games.
At the start of the season, I remember thinking it was a bonus that we’d mostly be playing once a week. I figured we’d get the added advantage of facing our rivals, who are in Europe, just a few days after their midweek matches. But this is how it’s actually played out so far:
- Arsenal was the first game of the season.
- Liverpool and City were both right after an international break.
- Spurs is just before an international break, so they can afford to risk players.
- Chelsea is the only example so far where they’ve played in the week before facing us.
Looking ahead (and yes, fixtures can change), it doesn’t look great either:
- We play City after an international break.
- We play Liverpool near the end of the season, when they’ll probably be out of Europe.
- We play Spurs between the league and knockout phase of the UCL.
- We play Chelsea on the last day of the season.
- The only one that might work in our favour is Arsenal, who do have a midweek game before facing us.
What do you guys think, am I overthinking this or is it genuinely a bit suspicious? 😅
You lads are always on point. That stoppage time in the second half was wild. On top of what you mentioned, Forest were taking ages to do anything when they were leading. Anderson strolling over to take corners. I get it, but I thought they were supposed to add that on?
We are just going to have to live with our inconsistency as this is the hallmark of a team like ours. I can clearly see a path to improving positions with new (or improving players) where we will stop letting these types of goals in. When we get there we will be challenging for everything. I hate watching it, but it's part of the rebuild. Only a couple of positions and I think we will be solid, on the other end we will score goals. So nice to see that we have scored nearly as many as the top clubs this year.

Our next 5 games are TOT, EVE, CRY, WHAM and WLVS. We should be focused on getting 3-4 wins in this run and keeping unbeaten run going.

A large part of the meltdown is cause we expect 5 in a row to get Frank his haircut. Despite how rare 5 in a row is.

The only 2 we shouldn't have sold are Alvaro and Garner because we sold Alvaro when we had no left backs and Garner when we were thin in midifled too!
