The argument some have about Carrick's press conferences lacking skill or sophistication are misfounded. He avoids questions designed to create noise with a lot of skill. He takes the pressure off his players while still praising them for their hard work. He deflects narratives that aren't helpful by making it about a team, not individuals. He's a genius compared to Amorim's naive approach. When you're doing well, the press conference isn't really relevant. When you're doing badly you need a guy who can protect the squad and not drop them in it because you're worried about your own frustrations. I don't give a shit if he's boring. He's showing far more intelligence than almost all the others post Fergie. Don't underestimate this guy.
I would love to hear other arguments for appointing Carrick permanently, than his win-rate. And I don't mean that as a hit against people that wants him, I mean it quite literally - let's talk about actual reasons why Carrick is a good appointment, other than a completely inflated stat that tells us absolutely nothing. It's 10 games man. When we're talking about such a small sample size of games, % win-rate just doesn't tell you enough. I am not inherently against appointing him btw, but I think the conversation lacks nuance at the moment. He's come into the club under very special circumstances.
A press conference is to talk about the match and possible injuries etc. it's not about entertaining journalists or people who watch them. They are not entertainers. A manager only needs to compel the players off camera .
I like that Carrick is restrained in pressers. I like it even more that he refuses to get drawn on issues when certain journalists are trying to bait him, and doesn't play into their sh!t-stiring or creating drama where there is none. I think some people expect it to be a cabaret/stand-up routine, FFS - isn't football entertainment enough, and don't United churn out enough content for engagement? I think some managers did the team a disservice in answering some questions too honestly and basically explain (to the opposition) our tactics and therefore how to beat us. I'm actually really proud of how he plays it all with a straight bat, and long may he continue.
Wow! How to turn a positive into a negative. Carrick’s handling of the media has been supreme despite them trying to trip him up, so you call him boring. He’s not boring at all, he’s intelligent and measured rather than being an idiot.
If we finish 3rd will be the biggest jump in league positions other than Leicester winning the league! And only one less than that! It’s a pretty incredible turn around

Would rather Carrick being calm and keeping it simple, rather than giving the media soundbites and drama. You as media want the drama for content.

70% win rate beats press conference demeanour. Strange point to consider.

I like this positive Carrick comments. Can't wait for the 180 and effectively a character assassination from the same fans of things go wrong.
