If we don't sort the defensive midfield position it's quite literally "2 steps forward, one step backwards", right now we have one of the best starting 11's in the league (not the best) but we're still miles behind Chelsea and Man City's squads.
This season we needed major signings in 3 positions, we got two so far. If we don't sort CDM this season then we have to solve it next season ...and Pogba will leave ...and Cavani will leave. So next season we're potentially back at needing 3 major signings again, we'll only get two of them and then the season after we'll lose another main player.
That's the issue with this club, we never go for it anymore. We're always "yeah, this is enough to challenge" and then stop investing. If Kane and Grealish goes to Man City they've had a better quality increase than us ...and they were already 12 points ahead of us and they played 3 finals, we played 1 final?
Even if Man City doesn't sign Kane or Grealish I'd have them as massive favorites for the league title over Chelsea and Man United in third, if City gets their two targets the gap will grow from 12 points to over 20.
We NEED a defensive midfielder, and I still a striker is also needed.
