we have to call a spade a spade. It’s a bad start, and worse, it’s a familiar trend.
Look back at last season: after the first few games, that was basically the team’s identity for the rest of the year. Beyond maybe one or two convincing performances, we’re a team that plays in short moments for 20-30 minutes max. The rest of the time, we’re off-kilter, lacking intensity, or just holding on for dear life. Pre-season same and now the new season has started, its the same here as well.
There needs to be a serious tactical rethink. Giving players freedom is fine, but failing to adapt or change the nature of the team is just lazy coaching at this point. You have to have a Plan B and C. Carrick seems to follow the same rigid formula - if we pull off a win, he fields the exact same lineup for the next match, completely ignoring obvious structural issues just to "focus on the positives." Bad performances catch up to good results.
If he doesn't start rotating, building alternative ideas and giving the rest of the squad a proper run-out, this season is going to slip away fast.

We should be worried if we want to win the league. If we want top 4, maybe not.

The team reminds me of the United I watched in the 80s. One great player, a few very good players and some bang average players. Win Liverpool in the cup one week and lose against Luton or Oxford United the next

Harry Maguire is and should be a backup at this point he is far too slow and it affects how all the other defenders defend

Let be honest, If Maitland Niles’s strike goes into the top of row Z this would be a totally different discussion

13:37 it’s too early to define Carrick’s tactics. Is it though? Ste said it might take 20/25 games, well he’s had 20 in the league now, so that’s that statement out the window.

i had good will with Ineos right up until this summer. I defended them last summer and during Jan when people were calling for a midfielder - i thought we had a decent enough squad to get UCL and it needed to be shrank however, this was under the impression we would spend big in the summer. The way the transfer window started this season my good will evaporated pretty quickly.

What is the latest regarding the recruitment of a set piece coach?

Transfer window made it clear it’s a top 5 finish that’s being targeted. Nothing changes until the ownership does.
