I think people slagging us off for chasing de Jong are nuts personally. If we want success we have to back the manager with who he wants. This is who we wants so we must do eveything we can do to get him. ETH wouldn't chase him this much if he didn't think we could get him. Not saying it will happen or his priority isn't to stay, but Barcelona need that money and then wages gone, even if he halves them they're missing out on 75/85m euros. But why would he say he wants to leave when they owe him money?
I understand why ETH is adamant about this De Jong deal as it would help integrate his philosophy on the team in a wider aspect. Obviously we should have alternatives but if there’s even a 5% chance of signing Frenkie, then we have to go all out in order to back the manager. It’s frustrating but it will be worth it.
To clear up some questions you had on Barca finances: 16:00 Messi salary it self was not the problem, but ihis salary overinfladed other player salarys. Barcelona had a salarycost around 800mil a couple of years ago. Messi made a lot of cash for the club, but Barcelona spended to mutch on (Dembele, Griezman, coutinho etc) with insane contracts and no return. Now they sold rights to get in the short term cash, but it will cost them 250mil in the long term.
2) BTW buying new players is not the problem due sold levers & short term cash. But La Liga has rules how mutch clubs can spend on wages, that is why Frenkie has to leave to make room in the salery cap--> to be able to sign in New players for comming season.
Barca haven't paid for Coutinho, Vidal, Malcolm, Trincao or Dembele in full. Owe about €126m in total according to article I read. Liverpool (in hindsight, very intelligently) sold the Coutinho debt to a third party and got the cash up front (still owe about £36m).
think the money owed to frankie from the past 2 season was included into the new contract extension to be payed over the next 4 years so if they sell him they do not owe him because his contract finishes but now they want him to take a 50% pay cut for the next 4 seasons think his agent and lawyers have let him down badly. really feel sorry for him
