We all know how sh** this board can be and I won't get over hyped or excited until its official but this seems to be much more credible and imminent than the summer was and I hope it comes off. Bruno is exactly the sort of ilk of midfielder that we need, add goals and assists, forward thinking , thunder shot on him , excellent vision and creativity ; creative midfield has far an away been our biggest weakness this season . To me it just makes a lot of sense on every level, especially as he can be had for a likely reasonable fee (especially for his quality and attributes) the player is keen on a move and his club are willing to sell him. That can not be said for Maddison or Grealish , Villa are trying to beat the drop which for them is well worth the risk of possibly taking a lower fee for Grealish in the summer with the level of revenue and players they could attract by them trying to and possibly actually staying up. And with James Leicester are not willing to sell now , looking to finish top 4, will cost over 100 million imo and not clear he would come in the summer , especially if we likely end up in the Europa and the Foxes are in the CL he might want to have that CL experience regardless.
Thats why for me you go with the deal you can get right now , our midfield was weak with everyone fit and it has been decimated by injuries , so we need reinforcements in the mid now. I do think if we get Bruno its much more unlikely we will move for Grealish or Maddison in the summer , for one we don't know if we can get them then anyway but Bruno has become a very offensive mid , best at CAM , uber creative and productive ; wouldn't make sense at all to play him deeper as he is a bit lightweight physically and just stifles his skillset. But as I said you have to make the move for who you can get right now and Bruno ticks all the boxes for us skills and attributes wise as well as availability and I believe if we sign him has the potential to be a transformative signing. If we bring in another mid now or in the summer I think it will be another DM / box to box type to have another #6 option to mix in there behind Bruno. Van de Beek can play deeper and is not only a technical baller but has a tenacious and defensive side (although he seems bound for Real in the summer) , Soumare I haven't seen enough of but he seems a more deep lying mid as well. I think we will move for a DM / box to box type if we move for any other mids provided we sign Bruno, in terms of midfield balance and the types of mids in that squad that can be on the pitch simultaenosuly.
I hope this comes off but I am tempering expectations until this is completely done..
