Apropos of nothing in this video, don't think the modern support will ever comprehend just how bleak those late 80s were under Ferguson. Especially after the Atkinson years which were just proper United off the pitch years. Calander year 1989 was just grim, Villa Park on Boxing Day the most toxic United end ever, everybody was done with Ferguson, then the 'Ta Ra Fergie' banner against Palace in front of about 30k. It was bleak, nobody saw a way out, club was skint, crowds were well down and Edwards only interest was in selling the club. And yet those of who still bothered to go, just got on with supporting United, regardless of the manager. Then came Forest away Jan 90, pure United resilience on and off the pitch, the manager was irrelevant, this was about us. Thankfully, the manager quickly became totally relevant.
