Manchester United Women’s forward Nikita Parris said that competition for places amongst the team will be key if we are to be genuine title challengers this season and fired a warning to our Women’s Super League opponents Aston Villa who we face at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.
Parris joined the Red Devils in the summer from Arsenal after being a part of the England squad that won the Euros and has enjoyed the start she and the team have made to the season. She is United’s leading goalscorer this season having bagged her first goal back at the beginning of October against Aston Villa in the league cup and has featured in every league game since then.
United are third in the WSL table level on points with Arsenal and three behind league leaders Chelsea, who have played a game more. Parris’ excellent form has seen us becoming possible title contenders. She said this has been down to competition for places in Marc Skinner’s side.
Speaking to MUTV, she said it leaves no room for complacency.
“Training and matches are the most important and we have to deliver as a team and individuals. And I think in order to win the WSL and win trophies consistently it has to be the best players on the pitch performing at the time and that’s what you want to be. You want to be on the pitch every single match day and training hard.”

Having previously played for Arsenal, Lyon, Manchester City and Everton, Parris has credited her teammates in helping to settle in at United.
“The dressing room is really unique. The girls are top drawer. The atmosphere is unbelievable. And you feel settled as soon as you come through the doors and I think that’s very unique.”

The Red Devils welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford in this weekend’s round of WSL fixtures after securing a dramatic victory over her former club Arsenal two weeks ago. Parris has had the experience of playing in this iconic stadium with England in the summer.
She has fired a warning to our opponents ahead of the game as they will be surrounded by the huge support of the United fans.
“The support has been unbelievable. I think to pack the stadium at Old Trafford with our fans and the away team will be very uncomfortable.”

Parris will be hoping to be on the score sheet on Saturday having scored her first goal of the season against Aston Villa in the league cup.
“It was a great first goal to begin the campaign and for me, it’s about taking the steps forward and scoring more goals and creating more goals.”
