The eco-system around the club, from the amount of ex players as pundits pulling apart every performance as soon as it ends (who far outnumber any other club), to the dressing room links, to the cottage industry of youtube shows (like yourselves) podcasts and general talking heads (which also kinda outnumbers any other club) whether anyone likes it or not do certainly add to the pressure involved in bringing the club back to anywhere near the top. It is what it is....and the way of the modern world, we aren't going back to some place where every players detailed stats aren't being pored over minutes after games but it cannot help the team....the pressure on the players is far far higher and most modern footballers don't have the aggressive siege mentality and hard nosed bloody mindedness of the likes of Keane or others back in the day. Given the choice....I think many would rather play for freewheeling Bournemouth, who if anyone is any doubt about that watch the 20 min show detailing a day with Thomas Frank, all he works on is positive reinforcement, and there's no doubt players respond, play with the shackles off and look like they are having fun. When is the last time anyone playing for United looked like they actually were enjoying playing, expressing themselves with freedom and personality and not it would seem worried about the column inches or online pound of flesh that's incoming if they sky the ball into the stands from ten yards out. Yet it is what it is....I watch the channel! it's the way of the modern world, but as United play catch up with not only the top of the table all the teams in the middle and even lower than that on all fronts, from scouting to facilities it's hard not to think that the shirt is too heavy most of the time.....and the constant analysis doesn't help.....and that's before we get too all the other elements, poor recruitment, manager churn, the ownership, all the other stuff.
Something you seem to forget about Antony - it wasn't just the pressure and price tag, he also went through those accusations from back in Brazil. He was dropped by the national team because of them, and had that to deal with whilst trying to make it at a new club. Whether he did what he was accused of or not, that will not have been easy to deal with. I doubt any of you, or me, would be able to do our job properly with that going on in the background.
